朝食のお店< モーニングスタンド エルドラド >がスタートしたのは2023年12月。
店主の剥岩元気さんは、鹿児島県出身。埼玉、広島、サンフランシスコなどで暮らしたのち、宮古島での生活は7年目を迎える。
ウェブ制作やマーケティングといった複数の業務を抱える日々の一方で、かつては深夜まで働き、そのまま友人と夜通し飲み明かし、昼過ぎに起きて再び夜まで仕事をするという、いわゆる夜型の暮らしを送っていた。
そんな無茶な暮らしを続けたら、早死にするかもしれないと悟ったことが生活の大きな転換点となった。
酒に溺れる日々から一転し、朝の時間を使って何かできないかと模索する中で、「生活への意識の切り替え」を試みる。
< 旅と酒ガリンペイロ >の店主、スナダフミオ氏へ相談し、同店の営業していない時間帯を活用しモーニングスタンド開業に至る。
トースト、ベーコン、目玉焼きといったいわゆる”王道の朝ごはん”は遠く離れた南の島でも食べられることは、旅行客や訪日外国人にとっても親しみを持ち、安心できる存在だ。
次第にひとくくりにできない本業と朝食が接続され、やがて両方のワークバランスが整理されてきたと言う。
今では出張で島を離れることがあっても心強いスタッフが店を預かる。
「自分は飽き性」と語る店主が定番の朝食を作り続けている。
それは暮らしの変化を受け入れ、積み重ねていくことのリアルな姿そのものだ。

> 間食をしない。ジムで運動。意識的にスマホと距離をとり景色を眺めてボーッとする。

【 Morning Stand Eldorado | Genki Hagiiwa 】
The breakfast spot Morning Stand Eldorado first opened its doors in December 2023.
The reason behind owner Genki Hagi-iwa’s decision to start a breakfast shop? Simply put, it was for his health.
While managing multiple roles in web production and marketing, he also spent many nights drinking late into the evening with friends. After continuing that lifestyle for some time, he gradually began to reflect on his well-being.
He turned to Fumio Sunada, owner of Tabi to Sake Garimpeiro, for advice. Encouraged by their conversation, he shifted toward a morning-oriented lifestyle, ultimately launching Morning Stand during the hours when Garimpeiro is closed.
Originally from Kagoshima, Hagi-iwa lived in Saitama, Hiroshima, and San Francisco before settling in Miyakojima, where he’s now in his seventh year.
Even when he travels for his main work, his trusted staff keep the shop running smoothly in his absence.
Visitors from abroad may feel a quiet sense of comfort discovering a proper, classic breakfast—toast, bacon, fried eggs—here in Miyakojima, far from home.
The self-proclaimed “easily bored” owner continues to serve the same reliable morning meals every day.
That act of repetition is a quiet expression of embracing daily life and committing to it over time.

> Not really—I’m easily bored, so I don’t stick to routines.
What’s a word or concept you recently looked up?
> The release date of the RICOH GR IV.
Do you have a method for generating ideas?
> I take in as much as I can—looking, eating, drinking (input). Then I try to verbalize what I’ve absorbed (output), and link it back to that input. That’s when ideas start to come together. In that sense, Miyakojima is a great environment—even compared to big cities.
Is there anything you do regularly to stay health?
> I avoid snacking, work out at the gym, and make an effort to take breaks from my phone—just looking at the scenery and letting my mind drift.
What’s important to you when it comes to work?
> Doing what needs to be done, when it needs to be done — and doing it properly.
Is there someone you’d like to meet or someone you respect right now?
> Someone I deeply respect is my former supervisor from when I was teaching in the U.S.
